Our Sales Team Talks About the Community

Friday, March 11th, 2011

Our sales team can’t quite get over how rapidly the area around Glenmore and Highland Park has transformed into a vibrant and accessible neighbourhood.

Connie, one of our sales representatives at Glenmore, recently returned from her maternity leave, and she was quite struck by the community’s development in the past year: “Everything is so close by and accessible. It’s like being downtown, but it’s much more peaceful.”

Amanda and Victoria, sales representatives from Glenmore and Highland Park respectively, are equally taken by the area’s urban vibe.

“When I think back to 2008 when I first started working out here, I am absolutely amazed as to the amount of development, both commercial and residential,” comments Victoria. “This area has not only developed, but has been transformed into a beautiful community, rich with amenities, home and shopping.”

“With the amount stores and amenities nearby, it’s become the suburbia Yaletown,” remarks Amanda.

The feedback our team has received from potential homeowners like you has been overwhelmingly positive as well.

People continue to comment that they really appreciate the fact that they can walk across the street and get a cup of coffee. And still have access to wonderful schools and beautiful parkways.

Then there are, of course, the homes.

We’re pretty fond of the two-bedroom plus den homes now available at Glenmore They’re in a great location and have spacious yards. And clearly you are too, only a handful remains.

The three-bedroom B1 plan at Highland Park has also been much admired. The open-concept layout and vaulted ceilings create a spacious, single-family home feel. And the master ensuite features a full five-piece bathroom.

Most of all, you appreciate the fact that our finishings are a representation of the area itself – a blend of “traditional living with a modern twist.” Thanks for noticing.

It is something about the area that captivated us right away, and prompted us to move on this location.

Keep checking in, we will continue to keep you up-to-date about this burgeoning community. And our sales team is always available to chat about the neighbourhood.

A Winter’s Day at Glenmore and Highland Park

Saturday, December 18th, 2010

Way back in the summertime—gosh, it seems so long ago—we took you through a day in the life at Glenmore and Highland Park.

Since then, a lot has changed: the days have become shorter; the leaves have fallen from the trees; new shops have opened at Grandview Corners across the street from Glenmore and Highland Park; and the community has grown.

Waking up here you’ll still be greeted by carefully landscaped gardens and decorative arbours, but a layer of frost will have replaced the early morning dew.

Venture to De Dutch for a hearty breakfast with friends. Their sweet and savoury pannekoekens are just the thing to warm you up on a winter’s day, and keep you going for a busy day of shopping in the neighbourhood.

First item on the shopping list? Gift wrap and holiday cards from Hallmark. Then it’s off to Future Shop and Sony Style to get the perfect gifts for dad and hubby. A Blue-Ray player is sure to go down well as is the latest box set of MadMen.

With that out of the way, you can focus on the fun stuff. Finding a stellar outfit for tonight’s yuletide soiree at Morgan Creek Golf Club! Crush Clothing has a great selection of Betsey Johnson pieces, and BCBG MaxAzria’s winter collection has all sorts of dresses—short and frilly, long and elegant and everything in between.

But it’s the perfect pumps that bring an outfit to life. Fortunately, Sterling Shoes is just steps away from Glenmore and Highland Park. A matching clutch will tie it all together.

It’s not everyday that you attend a holiday party, so you might as well make the most of it. A ten-minute walk from your front door to Casbah Day Spa at Grandview Corners means you can actually indulge in some “me time” without having to devote a full day at the spa. Enjoy a soothing foot massage and pedicure to prep your feet for the night ahead. And why not grab a gift certificate for mom while you’re there?

It’s been a full day, but you’ve managed to check everything off your to-do list. And all within walking distance from home. Just another day at Glenmore and Highland Park.

Piping hot cider, mugs full of hot chocolate, a blazing bonfire. Heading to the tree farm encompasses so much more than just selecting a Christmas tree!

Located on 190 Street in Surrey, Armstrong Creek Farms has an excellent selection of U-Cut and pre-cut trees to choose from. And don’t worry about bringing your own saw, along with a refreshment stand, Armstrong Creek Farms has plenty of saws on-hand. The farm only accepts cash, so make sure to head to the bank before you make your way there.

The 17-acre farm features a variety of trees, including Douglas Fir, Grand Fir, Blue Spruce, Fraser Fir and Noble Fir. Out toward the Cloverdale/Langley area, Oh Christmas Tree Farm is about a half-hour drive from Glenmore and Highland Park, but we think the easy parking and free hot chocolate by the bonfire makes up for the distance.

Potters is the largest Christmas store in Western Canada, with over 28,000 square feet of display space! Along with an assortment of unusual holiday décor, the store is home to a selection of pre-cut trees. So, if you just can’t hack hacking down a tree yourself, you may want to head here. The garden store’s other two locations on 152nd Ave and 72nd Ave also sell a variety of fresh conifers.

Four Holiday Must-Haves and Where to Get ’Em

Tuesday, December 7th, 2010

Christmas time can be a whirlwind, but having easy access to a multitude of excellent retail shops is sure to relieve some of the pressure when it comes to your holiday preparation.

And it’s just one more reason why you’ll love living at Glenmore and Highland Park.

Christmas Tree Stands at Home Depot
A Christmas tree just won’t be able to stand with out a tree stand. It’s as simple as that. So before you head out and purchase that majestic Noble Fir, you’ll want to make sure you have a reliable tree stand—one that manoeuvres easily and is deep enough for a reasonably large tree trunk. Fortunately, as a resident at Glenmore and Highland Park, finding a great tree stand should be a relatively easy feat considering Home Depot is just a block away. While you’re there you might want to check out there Christmas tree selection. Between December 2nd and December 8th only, receive a $25 coupon with the purchase of any fresh-cut tree.

Eye-Catching Ornaments at Ambiente
No matter where they come from Christmas tree ornaments add festive flair and holiday cheer to Christmas trees around the globe. But we have to admit we’re always enthralled by the sparkling treasures that await at Ambiente Gifts, Décor & Design. If you’re looking for a memorable ornament for the tree or even a statement centerpiece, you will find it here amongst Ambiente’s immaculate Christmas displays.

Festive Tableware at Kitchen Therapy
Christmas dinner. Perhaps the dinner of all dinners, so it only makes sense that your tableware be up to snuff with the fine meal that has your family and friends licking their chops already. May we suggest heading to Kitchen Therapy in Grandview Corners (right next door to Glenmore and Highland Park) where you can happily while away an hour or two immersed in all brands of cookware, bakeware and accessories. From charming Christmas-themed swizzle sticks to cranberry red Emille Henry serving platters, finding pieces to transform your dining room table from the usual to Christmas-ready couldn’t be easier.

And last, but certainly not least.

Fortunately, we know just the place with the most delectable handmade chocolates that everyone will enjoy, and it’s only minutes from Glenmore and Highland Park. It’s called Mink Chocolates. For moms who want to get out and live life in their community and have fun while raising their children it doesn’t get better than this.

South Surrey is a hub of activity for moms in the know, and the burgeoning neighbourhood around Glenmore and Highland Park is only adding to this vibrant community for mommies.

The boutique is filled with all sorts of beautiful children’s clothes and accessories, and is a host to a variety of child-friendly activities, from reading workshops to song and craft time to play dates with the likes of Cinderella and Ariel. Introduce your little guy or gal to some new playmates and mingle with other moms in the area.

A 10-minute drive from Glenmore and Highland Park, the Bell Performing Arts Centre in South Surrey is host to numerous events for both young and old. This month, it’s all about the kids. Described as a Halloween musical adventure for the entire family, The Great Big Boo! comes to the Bell Centre on October 23rd. And this week, the Centre welcomes acclaimed children’s author Robert Munsch on his Love You Forever Tour.  Take a moment to recite those beloved words “I’ll love you forever, I’ll like you for always” together with your tot.

Of course, if you’re looking to pursue something a little more active there is always Mommy & Me Bowling at Scottsdale Lanes. Pre-schooler and adult team up costs $60 and runs for six weeks. Or you can participate in a family and youth night at Tong Louie Family YMCA.

Spending quality time getting to know other moms who share the same interests as you is always important too. There are a few Mommy & Me groups in the South Surrey/White Rock area to help you do just. The members-only clubs aim to create lasting friendships for parents as well as their children through meet ups and play dates to places like coffee shops, beaches, the aquarium and other areas over the Lower Mainland. You’ll want to sign up as a member to get more information.

A place to live, a place to belong, a place to grow. It’s all here at Glenmore and Highland Park.

Outdoor Movies for a Good Cause

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

Summer is about staying up late and taking advantage of bright evenings. It’s about soaking up the sun’s rays in the day and relaxing amidst a warm breeze at night. It’s about indulging yourself a little more than usual and embarking on new adventures.

And with fall fast approaching, it only makes sense to take full advantage of those few remaining summer nights. So why not venture out to one of beautiful South Surrey’s outdoor movie nights?

Following in the footsteps of the Downtown Surrey Business Improvement Association who has been hosting an annual movie night in Holland Park for the past six years, Morgan Crossinghas introduced their own movie under the stars at the corner of 24th Ave and Croydon Drive – just inside Morgan Crossing Village.

We couldn’t wait to get down there last week, especially after we learned the movie was going to be one of our favourite childhood classics, Steven Spielberg’s E.T. Curled up with a blanket, a bag of potato chips and some candy gummies, we took a trip down memory lane.

And for a good cause. The outdoor movie night is by donation, with all proceeds going to the Surrey Food Bank.

The third largest Food Bank in British Columbia, Surrey Food Bank helps feed 15,000 people per month, while providing food support for a number of recovery houses, safe houses, youth centres, and soup kitchen. And that’s something we’re keen to get behind.

Living at Glenmore and Highland Park, you can be part of this full life.

There’s one more Sunday showing, and it’s happening this Sunday, September 5th. It’s the ideal opportunity to give back to this growing area of the Lower Mainland. And it’s such a cool way to enjoy a night out with family and friends.

Get ready for a few giggles. The film starts at dusk, and will be the 1987 spoof, Spaceballs.

An Ideal Place to Raise a Family

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

We think you’ll like growing up here.

South Surrey’s burgeoning Morgan Heights neighbourhood is a great place to grow, and grow up. Indoor and outdoor activities in the form of clubs, camps and kids venues for your little (and not so little) ones abound, minutes from your doorstep. So, if you’re looking to move with a young one in tow or are planning to start a family soon, we recommend starting here.

Historic Stewart Farmhouse
Just a 12-minute drive from Morgan Heights sits the historic Stewart Farmhouse. First built in 1894, by pioneer John Stewart, the Stewart farmhouse is a now a place for visitors and residents alike to enjoy heritage activities, crafts and home baking. Costumed tour guides will take you through the house, and teach you about life in Surrey in the Victorian period. What’s more, in the summer months, the Stewart Farmhouse offers various children’s daycamps – and that’s great news for you and the kids. They can spend a day at the farm doing things the old-fashioned way, while you can enjoy a quiet lunch with friends.

Serpentine Fen
An interesting and inexpensive way to enjoy the outdoors with your kids. Located 10 minutes from Morgan Heights by car, Serpentine Fen, also called the Serpentine Wildlife Area, is a 150-acre habitat with more than 130 different bird species. There are a number of designated public trails and three covered viewing towers to help spot eagles, hawks, blue herons and more. September and October are the best months for birding, as many birds take shelter in the Fen, but you may also come across frogs, coyotes and even harbour seals. Don’t forget the binoculars!

The South Surrey Indoor Pool
This is a great venue for learning and playing. Register your little ones in swim lessons or just head to the pool for a day of fun. The indoor pool has six 25-metre lanes and two diving boards as well as a children’s pool and whirlpool. And the Pool hosts youth activities on Friday and Saturday nights. Pre-teen pool parties complete with a DJ and games, and Swim Play, which includes swimming followed by a movie and popcorn are popular Saturday night events. Conveniently, located 10 minutes from Morgan Heights.

Softball City
One of the coolest locations for any kid who loves sports has to be Softball City. It is the premiere sports and entertainment complex with four championship calibre diamonds, and it’s one more venue that is located only 10 minutes away from Morgan Heights. It’s an ideal location for fundraisers and birthday parties, or just watching a league or tournament game.

Add the fact that White Rock/South Surrey is part of the largest public school district in B.C., School District 36 (which has 99 public elementary schools and 21 public high schools), and we think you’ll find that Morgan Heights is quite an exciting place to live.

You want to raise your children in a nurturing and stimulating environment, and at Glenmore & Highland Park in Morgan Heights that want can become reality. If you’re looking to make the move and own your own home in a trendy suburban community that combines urban flare with a family-friendly mentality, you’ll love Morgan Heights.
